GIFT City Investment
GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City) hosts India's International Financial Services Centre (IFSC). Financial activity there is regulated by the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) and is mostly carried out in foreign currency, typically US dollars. We facilitate access to GIFT City investment options through agreements with established partner institutions.
Outbound: residents investing through GIFT City
Indian residents can invest in IFSC products using the Reserve Bank of India's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS), which applies an annual limit per individual. This gives access to dollar-denominated options without opening an overseas account.
- The remittance counts towards your annual LRS limit, and tax collected at source may apply as per prevailing rules.
- Investments are in foreign currency, so exchange-rate movements affect your outcome in rupees.
- Taxation of income and gains differs from domestic investments. Confirm it with a tax professional.
Inbound: NRIs and overseas investors
Non-resident and overseas investors can invest through GIFT City entities in foreign currency, without routing money through a domestic account, with exposure depending on the product chosen.
- KYC, FATCA/CRS and source-of-funds documentation are required.
- Eligibility, minimum amounts and tax treatment depend on the investor's country of residence and on the product.
Risks to understand
- Currency risk, market risk and product-specific risks.
- Investor protection and grievance mechanisms may differ from those for domestic mutual funds.
- Liquidity and exit terms are set by each product.
- Returns are not guaranteed. Read the offer documents carefully.

Questions people ask
Is this the same as investing in a mutual fund?
No. GIFT City products are separate from mutual funds distributed under our AMFI registration and follow different rules and documents.
Do I need an overseas bank account?
For outbound investing by residents, the LRS route allows investment without one. Requirements vary by product.
